Toxic elements in children’s crayons and colored pencils: Bioaccessibility assessment
نویسندگان
چکیده
Crayons and colored pencils for children may contain toxic elements (TEs) exhibiting potential risk children?s health including cognitive development, after their ingestion, through mouthing chewing eventually, accumulation. The aim of this study was to determine total content As, Pb, Cr, Cd, Ni Sb estimate bioaccessibility conducting artificial saliva extraction. Sixty samples crayons from 10 manufacturers were analyzed. Microwave acid assisted digestion followed by inductively coupled plasma optical spectroscopy (ICP-OES) performed determination TEs. Simulation extraction applied get more reliable data when bioavailability is concerned. concentrations TEs higher in than maximum levels were: 5.78, 9.36, 9.97, 0.615, 6.63 mg kg-1 Cd Ni, respectively. Concentration below the detection limit all investigated samples. This showed that concentration As Pb several did not comply with European Union regulative. Bioaccessibility high degree leaching Cr pencils, but regardless extracted portions, selected allowed levels.

Toxic metals in children's toys and jewelry: coupling bioaccessibility with risk assessment.
A total of 45 children's toys and jewelry were tested for total and bioaccessible metal concentrations. Total As, Cd, Sb, Cr, Ni, and Pb concentrations were 0.22-19, 0.01-139, 0.1-189, 0.06-846, 0.14-2894 and 0.08-860,000 mg kg(-1). Metallic products had the highest concentrations, with 3-7 out of 13 samples exceeding the European Union safety limit for Cd, Pb, Cr, or Ni. However, assessment ba...
متن کاملBioaccessibility of Airborne Particulate-Bound Trace Elements in Shanghai and Health Risk Assessment
Increased concentrations of airborne particulate matter in megacities within China, caused by rapid economic growth, urbanization and industrialization, have become a major health concern. High energy consumption, emissions from a large fleet of on-road vehicles and intense industrial activities all contributed to the deterioration of urban air quality in China. In this study, we investigated t...
متن کاملToxic Elements in Soils
MAMMALS and birds sometimes seek shelter or nesting sites in the ground. Many of them scarcely affect the soil as a medium for plant growth. A notable exception is the soil-dwelling rodents. Although their acreweight is usually only about a few pounds even in the uncultivated land, their soil transporting activities sometimes are considerable. In building their tunnels and nests, they transport...

This paper presents results of heavy metals determination in infant foods available in Poland during a monitoring programme in 2009-13. This study investigated levels of lead, cadmium, arsenic, and mercury in infant formulae and other infant foods intended for consumption during the first 6 to 12 months of life, and an intake of heavy metals was assessed. Food consumption data based on the arti...
